With 110 racers in her Super Stock Division, Allison Knaggs brought home a 6th place trophy. Allie managed to beat the Akron Local Champ during her first heat of the day. WAY TO GO ALLIE. Rylee Babish had an excellent 3 runs down the hill beating some very tough competitors for her first time to Akron. We are also very proud of James Knaggs who represented us in the Rally Masters Division. Allie and James both returned to Akron for their 3rd time. 6 out of the 20 Champs from District 4 placed 9th or better. Allie and James stayed in Akron the following week and competed in the NDR Nationals, racing to the top 32 in their divisions. Jerry Inducted Into "Hall of Fame" Our Region 4 Director, Jerry VanWart, received high distinction and was inducted into the "Soap Box Derby Hall of Fame" in Akron, Ohio. He was honored at the Awards Banquet the evening following the All-American National Race. WAY TO GO JERRY. THANKS – THANKS – THANKS The Knaggs family, along with the Babish family would like to thank everyone who supported their fundraisers prior to going to Akron. The extra money really helped with expenses for their week long stay in Akron. AA Rally Race - August 27th & 28th*Sponsored by Pinnacle Bank & US Recycling Co.* The new 2011-2012 season kicks off with a 2 day/3race All American Rally weekend August 27th and 28th. Now is a good time to get your friends involved in racing. If you are no longer racing your car or need to move up to a Super Stock car, please let us know. If you have a vacant car, please try to find a new driver or let us find one for you. Don’t forget that sponsored cars need to be raced at every race if possible. Pits will again open at 6:30 and registration will be from 7:30 – 8:30 with drivers meeting at approximately 8:30. The Derby Diner will open at 7:30 with plenty of good food and beverages. NDR Rally Race – September 10th & 11th *Sponsored by Lute Foundation/UPS Store-NP & Bosselman’s Pump & Pantry* A short two weeks after the August race, our NDR Rally will be held. Only Labor Day weekend separates the two races. Both races will consist of 1 double elimination race followed by 1 single elimination race on Saturday, then on Sunday only 1 double elimination race will be ran. The starting times will be the same. NEW RULE for Ogallala Races The tail weight rule has been eliminated at our Wild West Derby Track. After discussing this issue at the Directors Meeting in Akron, the consensus was that front and rear weight limits are up to each tracks officials. At Ogallala, we will no longer have a tail weight limit, at least until further notice. Total weight limits will remain the same and will be enforced. (Stock – 200 lbs. maximum ** Super Stock – 230 lbs. maximum for All American races & 240 lbs. maximum for NDR races ** Masters – 255 lbs. maximum) Don’t Forget About Your Plot Weeds, weeds and more weeds seem to be growing a lot everywhere these days. We don’t want the derby track to be forgotten, especially with the Rally Race just around the corner. Please take time out of your busy summer schedule and groom your plot. There are 2 open plots that need to be adopted. Call Dave if you can help. Super Kids Classic Division The Wild West Soap Box has purchased two Super Kids Cars. These cars are specially made to have two kids ride at the same time, the driver who is an experience racer and a disabled child. This gives children who wouldn’t normally be able to participate in soap box derby racing the chance of a lifetime. By holding just one race with just one disabled child, (more if we have the interest) Ogallala could send that child to Akron for the National Super Kids Classic. Bob Alberts will be the Super Kids Director and will be need helpers and sponsors. Information about this program is on the All-American website. It is a very heart warming program. For Your Information The Wild West Track morning stop by the NE classic car tour was voted the "BEST STOP EVER" since the tour started. We are glad it was a success and should all be very proud of that.
